The Glow Dust: So Far and So Near is the complete works collection of renowned Chinese artist Chen Guang. The book systematically brings together the most representative performance art works, conceptual paintings, in-depth artistic notes, and critical essays written by well-known art critics and scholars, including Kim Jungi, Wang Chunchen, Zhu Qi, Shu Yang, Wei Xing, Zhang Haitao, Liu Guopeng, and Zhao Xun, from across his twenty-year creative career. As an artist who has continuously experimented across the dimensions of body, space, and time, Chen Guang constructs a distinctive world through a highly reflective visual language, one that integrates an Eastern spiritual core with contemporary artistic expression. Beginning with an early practice shaped by the entanglement between the body and social issues, his work gradually turns toward self-awareness and reflections on lived experience within the crossing of Eastern and Western cultures. Through a singular method, he explores the liminal spaces of body, consciousness, and spirituality within plural social and cultural frameworks, giving his work a transcendent conceptual charge. 陳光 Chen Guang
陳光，1971年生於中國河南，1997年畢業於中央美術學院油畫專業，現於北京與紐約兩地生活及工作。其創作以行為藝術與繪畫探索人與宇宙、社會之間的存在關系。早期行為藝術作品如《新人類》（1999年）、《我的感情與性》（2000–2003年）、《人種》（2004年）等，透過身體感官回溯不同境遇下的歷史脈絡，引發廣泛關注。繪畫作品《廣場》系列（2006年）及《A2010200180》系列（2009年），則從具爭議性的歷史事件出發，探討自我體悟中生命感傷的療愈過程。行為作品《億千萬粒》（2016年）藉由城市的建築廢棄物，探討人類的集體意識，該作先後於北京、香港、日本、韓國、倫敦、維也納、意大利等地展出。
曾參與的主要群展包括：《1984—2007 中國行為藝術照片回顧展》（北京，2007）、《透視》當代藝術展（香港，2008）、《互聯城市》（釜山，2009）、《流動的社群》（北京，2009）、《極限》當代藝術展（東京，2012）、《未來就是過去—尋找中國的肖像》中國當代藝術展（維也納，2014）、《弱勢》（歐盟駐北京大使館，2016）、《北京書信》（光州，2019）等。
Chen Guang was born in Henan, China, in 1971. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1997 and currently lives and works in Beijing and New York. His practice explores the existential relationship between the individual, the universe, and society through performance art and painting. Early performance works such as New Mankind (1999), My Sense and Sex (2000–2003), and Race (2004) drew on the body’s senses to retrace historical contexts under different conditions, attracting wide attention. His painting series
Square (2006) and A2010200180 (2009), starting from controversial historical events, examine the healing process of life’s sorrow through self-reflection. The performance work Hundreds of Millions of Thousands (2016) investigates collective consciousness through urban construction waste, and has been exhibited in Beijing, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, London, Vienna, Italy, and elsewhere.
Major group exhibitions he has participated in include 1984–2007 Retrospective of Chinese Performance Art (Beijing, 2007), Perspective (Hong Kong, 2008), Inter-City (Busan, 2009), Flowing Communities (Beijing, 2009), Limit (Tokyo, 2012), The Future is the Past — Searching for the Portrait of China Chinese Contemporary Art Exhibition (Vienna, 2014), The Vulnerable (EU Embassy in Beijing, 2016), and Beijing Letter (Gwangju, 2019), among others.
