On their trips to the popular Balearic island, the photographer couple visited locals who stand for self-confident Mallorca: Maria Solivellas, a pioneer of the "zero kilometer concept" of New Mallorcan cuisine, only uses food that is native to Mallorca in her restaurant CA NA TONETA island and off the coast of Mallorca. Albert Pinya, artist from the island's capital Palma, discusses the political and cultural development of Mallorca in his works. Wine rebel Tomeo Llabres has founded his own winery in his hometown of Binissalem. He grows autochthonous grape varieties under the CAN VERDURA label. With his wines, he brings the essence of the landscape into the bottle. SOLIVELLAS olive oils are among the best produced in the Mediterranean.
All encounters and conversations with the protagonists shape the view of the two food and travel photographers. They show the result in MALLORCA - MAR i MUNTANYA. On 264 pages, the photo book shows puristic food stills, epic-looking landscape shots in subtle colors, contemporary street photography and characterful portraits of people. The subtitle “Pictures | thoughts | Recipes" refers to informative text passages on food culture and lifestyle as well as recipes for cooking typical island dishes. Graphic designer Sandra Kubitza presents the imagery in a clear layout that sets its own rules and allows exceptions. A lovingly hand-illustrated map gives the reader orientation on the island. The hardcover book with linen cover has been artfully handcrafted with white screen printing. This printing technique makes each copy unique. The elegant black thread stitching on the inside is perfectly matched to the concise typography. All production steps in the production, from layout to letterpress with title finish in screen printing to bookbinding were implemented in Germany.
