【Zine】Wood-firing journey

This zine documents my journey of playing with wood-fired pottery since 2021. Starting in 2020, we showcased at various markets and realized that pottery isn't widely recognized, especially wood-firing. Earlier, I participated in a forum for alumni of the Cultural Management Master's program at CUHK, where I shared my pottery journey and the qualities of being a cultural intermediary. The topic at that time focused on sustainability in cultural and artistic contexts. This encompasses not only personal sustainable development but also that of artists, art organizations, and the entire industry. While I know my contributions can't influence the whole industry or make it thrive, I at least participate as an audience member in various performances and exhibitions during my free time. But I hope to continue playing with clay and engaging in wood-firing. Thus, the idea of creating this zine came about, aiming to share the process of making pottery and the wood-firing technique with a wider audience.

This zine is circular, returning to the essence of pottery. Shaping clay requires creating a sphere, the potter's wheel is round, and wood is also round. Each zine is designed and bound by hand, purely handmade. During the production process, my printer also misbehaved, and the ink it produced reflected the unpredictability of wood-firing.

Ceramic Creator / Bookshop Owner / Cultural Mediator 

Michelle the founder of Mi Spacium Design Studio. The studio provides different creative services, including theatre and television set design, costume design, exhibition design, and publication works such as graphics and book design. Other than design, she also owns an art bookshop, called "Mi Spacium Culture 藝跡文化," selling various art books and organizing different cultural events in Hong Kong.
